The Eames Plastic Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important designs in furniture history. After their initial submission to the "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition organized by the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, the chairs were introduced to the market in 1950 in a version with arms and as a simple side chair, making them the first industrially produced plastic chairs. With the introduction of this revolutionary design, Charles and Ray Eames introduced a new furniture typology that has spread around the world ever since: the multifunctional chair whose shell can be combined with different bases.
As early as 1950, they introduced a series of bases that allowed a va

riety of seating positions, for example the low-seated LAR (Lounge Height Armchair Rod Base) with a geometric steel cable base that soon acquired the nickname "Cat's Cradle" in reference to the children's game of tug-of-war. The LAR chair seems to be one of Charles and Ray's favorite designs: it can be seen in numerous old photographs of the legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades, both indoors and outdoors. This also indicates how light the chair is and how easy it is to move from place to place. Material:
- Seat shell: recycled polypropylene, stained, 100% recyclable.
- Base: non-stacking wood base in various shades of maple or honey-colored ash, stained or lacquered finish. Steel cross braces in basic dark. - Note: due to the composition of the recycled material, the colors of the seat shell have very subtle flecks of pigment. Technical specifications:
