The Eames Shell Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important designs in furniture history. After their initial submission to the "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition organized by the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, the chairs were introduced to the market in 1950 in a version with arms and as a simple side chair, making them the first industrially produced plastic chairs. With the introduction of this revolutionary design, Charles and Ray Eames introduced a new furniture typology that has spread around the world ever since: the multifunctional chair whose shell can be combined with different bases.
As early as 1950, they introduced a series of bases that allowed a vari

ety of seating positions, for example the low-seated LAR (Lounge Height Armchair Rod Base) with a geometric steel cable base that soon acquired the nickname "Cat's Cradle" in reference to the children's game of tug-of-war. The LAR chair seems to be one of Charles and Ray's favorite designs: it can be seen in numerous old photographs of the legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades, both indoors and outdoors. This also indicates how light the chair is and how easy it is to move from place to place. Material:

- Like the previous models, today's fiberglass shells are also slightly transparent in some colors.
- Fiberglass owes its charm to the irregularity of its surface, whose clearly visible fibers give it the appearance of an almost natural material. The Fiberglass Chair LAR is not offered with cushions or upholstery to showcase the unique characteristics of this material to the fullest. Not stackable.
